The Center Party keeps talking about Halonen's powers and especially her involvement in the foreign policy of the country.

They were hoping that by taking a chance with the EU constitution, which would limit the powers of the local governments, could be a chance for Halonen to stop getting involved.

Apparently there was an incident two months ago where Javier Solana kindly asked her to go home, since she wanted to be present in a meeting between EU and African countries.

Keskusta believes that after that embarrassing incident the time has come for a constitutional change in Finland and cutting off some of the President’s powers.
